Are you interested in knowing all about BOTOX®? If so, you have come to the right blog. Today, our oral surgeons are happy to tell you all about BOTOX treatment to answer your questions and help you know more. The more you know, the better! To give you the information you need, our dentist is happy to share the following BOTOX facts with you:
– BOTOX is also known as onabotulinumtoxinA and it is made from the bacteria that cause botulism. BOTOX blocks the nerves in the muscles and causes temporary reduction in the muscle activity.
– BOTOX can improve moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet lines, and dental and facial pain. It can also help treat the TMJ disorder, bruxism, orthodontic problems and problems with removable prosthodontics.
– BOTOX is an injection of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine makes the muscle contract by depolarizing the motor end plate of the muscle. BOTOX will then reduce the intensity of the contraction or eliminate it altogether. This temporarily paralyzes the muscle. This can last up to three months. During this time, the muscle initiates new acetylcholine receptors and the growth of branches from neurons to form new synaptic contacts. The muscles will gradually regain full function will no side effects.
