Besides pain and swelling in the mouth, there are some signs of wisdom teeth needing removal that you can monitor. If you detect any of the following signs and symptoms, or if the spaces behind your molars are throbbing or swelling, please give us a call so that we can arrange you an appointment to see our doctor immediately.
One of the biggest indicators a wisdom tooth needs to be removed is the advance of pericoronitis, a disease where tissue encapsulates the erupted tooth, initiating infection and tenderness when debris become wedged. If you have pericoronitis, one of our oral surgeons may need to remove the gum tissue surrounding the tooth or the tooth itself. Another indicator that a wisdom tooth needs to be removed is bad tastes, funny aromas or constant pus in the areas surrounding the tooth. Earaches, ear infections and sinus infections are other further symptoms that a wisdom tooth may need to be extracted.
